Character History

Evan grew up in the Brect lands of Morphany to the south of Idellian. He was always yearning to travel the lands, making a name for himself away from the traditional family business of trade. Evan knew that the confines of Morphany could not halt his wonderlust.

Growing up, he always heard stories of the great lands of Idellian to the north. The great stories of Elves and Abominations always intrigued him. He wanted to become a great adventurer someday, fighting against the enemies of the lands under a great King.

Evan was a rather intelligent young Brect. He always wanted to study the ways of Magic, learning the innermost secrets of the high mages and to use that power for the benefit of mankind. He had dreams of becoming the most powerful mage in all of the known lands.

Attending the well-known Brect Royal Academy of Wizardry was one of the greatest moments in Evan's life. He was working with other people who shared his dream of Magic. He dedicated all his waking hours to the study and research of Magic and spells.

Unfortunately, things did not work well for Evan. Even though he could understand the inner workings of magic, he was always unable to preform it correctly. There always seemed to be forces working against his magic, corrupting his ability.

Evan was not one to give up easily, however. He studied as much as he could, allowing him to use magic contained in items such as staves and scrolls. Using these items, he was able to mimic the powers of other mages.

He still could not accept the fact that he was not a full mage. He struggled with the issue day and night, until he came to a decision: He would follow in his family's business of trade, and would trade magical items between people who wanted them.

Although he has no definite proof, he believes his lack of magical ability has been caused by another person. He uses his connections and trade routes to follow up on any information he finds about his strange affliction. He hopes one day to free himself from this limitation and to become the great mage he dreamed of as a young child.

He relocated his business to the lands of Idellian, setting up in the province of Windscop. Using the Ring of Six Cities as the base for his operations, he created vast trade routes in all directions. He became quite wealth in a very short time, but had not found any answers to his problems.

Then, King Manchester wanted to unite the lands of Idellian under his rule. He knew much of Evan, and asked for Evans help in setting up an communication network between all the provinces in Idellian. Evan agreed, knowing that the powerful King and his allies could help him in finding the answers he needed.

Evan became the King's most trusted advisor. Evan advises the king in matters of trade and communication.

Due to his magical background, Evan can use mage scrolls at an accelarated rate. He can use any scroll with a spell that is castable by a mage of his level. He can also use any magical item allowed to either Thieves or Mages.

Also, due to his trade in magic, he has a chance equal to (100% - 10 * level of spell) to have a scroll with any mage spell on it. EG, Evan could find a scroll with a 3rd level spell on it about 70% of the time.

Due to a recent discovery of a cache of scrolls, Evan receives a +10% bonus chance to find any scroll of level 6 and above.
