Character History

Absolam's history is shrouded in the mists of time. He is one of the few known Human Wizards in the lands around Idellian. There are rumors that he was sold to a kind Wizard that taught him the art, but no one knows for certain if that is the truth. All that is known is that he abhors any form of slavery to this day.

Absolam began his history in the Dwarven Province, striking a deal with the Dwarves to protect their lands in exchange for services. They readily agreed, giving him all the surface space he needed for his tower of sorcery.

He was always invited to the Council of Wizards, held regularly in the southern Brect lands of Morphany. The Sorcerer King was always a patron to the magical arts, and held the Council so that the practicioners of High Magic could meet and make important decisions.

However, not everyone agrees on everything. One Council Absolam met a rival of his, Grashna, an old, cranky Wizard that had always seek to prove he was better than Absolam. This meeting was different, for Grashna had a beautiful woman with him, named Christine.

Absolam lost no time striking up a conversation with this beautiful woman. They talked for a long while before Grashna interrupted them. Grashna left the room abruptly, commanding Christine to follow him. Absolam asked her why she was with Grashna, and learned the truth about the two.

Christine was Grashna's "apprentice", but in reality was bound to him due to some agreement her parents had made. He treated her terribly, commanding her to obey him without question. Grashna was essentially keeping Christine as a slave!

Absolam would not stand for this. He instantly went to Grashna and demanded he release Christine from his service. Grashna just laughed and commanded Absolam away.

"If you will not do the correct thing, Grashna, then I challenge you to a sorcerer's duel for Christine's freedom!" Absolam shouted, gathering his magical forces around him.

"A duel it shall be, dear Absolam. Let it be your last!" Grashna replied, summoning his magical energies. "I will see you defeated and grovelling before me, Absolam."

The duel ensued, each Wizard striking magical blows at the other, each hoping to topple the others defense. The duel lasted for hours, each Wizard tapping stores and reserves of power. As the duel wound down, both felt their energies wane. Both were in the precarious position of being defeated by a stray blow. Each searched tirelessly for their opponent's weak spot, hoping to score the crucial blow.

Suddenly, the opportunity presented itself, as Absolam left part of himself open to attack. Grashna summoned his energies into a lethal attack upon the undefended part that Absolam had. He never got the chance to finish that attack....

As Absolam's conciousness returned to him, he saw a large man before him holding a bloodied sword. Absolam though his life was forfeit until he heard the man's kind voice. "I am Aedron Manchester, one of the line of Idellian nobles. I could not help but step into the contest. Surely, there is more purpose in life than for you to die by that man's hands. I have taken care of him. I appologize for interrupting your duel, but I felt the need to make sure the of the proper outcome of the duel."

"He intended to kill me?" Absolam asked. "If so, then I do not mind if you interrupted the duel. My name is Absolam, Wizard of the Realms. I thank you, good sir, for your incredible judgement."

"Indeed. I have but one request as payment for my services," the good king replied.

"What is that?" Absolam asked.

"I wish you to join me at my side, to be a noble in the lands if Idellian and advise me in the matters of magic," Aedron Manchester replied as Christine came to tend Absolam's wounds.

"Agreed," Absolam replied. Thus began two of the most important relationships in Absolam's life. The one with his King, and the one with his future wife.

Absolam advises the king on all magical topics.
