Host recommendations, anyone?

I need to move this website to a new host soon, since my current super-start host has decided to get out of the business. *cry*

So, I need a place to host my site. A few details after the break.

I don’t need anything super-complex. Obviously need to run WordPress to run my blog. I also host files for people, so I’d like a big of generic disk and bandwidth usage.

This does NOT include the Meridian 59 site. That’s hosted separately and paid for by the company. This is to host my personal sites, my better half’s sites, and perhaps some future business sites.

Any information can be emailed to me: psychochild@gmail.com. Try to not look like spam so it can get through my filters. ;)

Thanks in advance!

  1. Dreamhost is a fine host, and they’ve got WordPress as a one-click install, which makes things nice. I’ve been using em for a few years now, and aside from the occasional hiccup, they tend to be solid. Also, they write fun newsletters and are open with their community. They’ve got a nice promo code system, google around and you should be able to sign up for pretty cheap as a result (although renewals are regular price).

Okay, just looked into how promos work and made my own code for ya. It’s a pretty extensive system. Basically, a member has $97 to work with per promo… back in the day you could make a full $97 promo code, but they capped that at $50 recently. Still, you can fill in the rest with extra promo features which take away from the payout (usually the referrer gets the difference between the promo amount and $97), by adding features you lose payout, but the promo is better. I maxed this one as much as I could, so I see $5 if you signed up.

    use promo code DRIPH
    $50 signup discount
20% bonus to the disk space
10% bonus to the monthly bandwidth
1 extra FREE lifetime domain registration

Wow, this comment totally looks like spam now.

  2. Check out Laughing Squid (http://www.laughingsquid.net) They host Boing Boing so you figure they must be pretty stable. Good prices. Been happy with them for a long time.

  3. I would second the vote for dreamhost. Only been with them a few weeks they have already proven themselves over my last host. As one of my friends put it “their newsletters alone are worth paying for.” They have one click installs for CVS and Subversion for Pete’s sake!

I value your comment and think the discussions are the best part of this blog. However, there's this scourge called comment spam, so I choose to moderate comments rather than giving filthy spammers any advantage.

If this is your first comment, it will be held for moderation and therefore will not show up immediately. I will approve your comment when I can, usually within a day. Comments should eventually be approved if not spam. If your comment doesn't show up and it wasn't spam, send me an email as the spam catchers might have caught it by accident.
