Being creative is hard

Over on Scott Miller’s Blog, Scott talks about how original IP is desirable over licensed IP. Every developer should focus on creating original IP and then focus on retaining that IP. This gives the developer much more leverage and control over their own destiny.

Now, I won’t necessarily disagree with this. On the other hand, this ignores one important thing: It’s hard to be creative. If it were easy, everyone would create a few original IPs before breakfast and reap the rewards. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy.
