Return of the Newbie Blogger Initiative

In grand Psychochild’s Blog tradition, I’m here to tell you news waaaaaaay after the fact. Anyway, this post is about the return of the Newbie Blogger Initiative! Do you write about game stuff, particularly MMOs, and want to get some attention to your writing? Want some experienced bloggers to lend some guidance while you explore the crazy world of blogging? Then this is the initiative for you!

Anyway, I signed up to be a mentor, so I should probably post something, right?

NBI: What makes your blog special

Rawr! It's a dragon!

I’m going to claim that I’m fashionably late to the Newbie Blogger Initiative. To be fair, I’ve been busy. So, I’m going to cheat a bit, ignore the rules, and jump right into offering advice. :)

So, what does make your blog special?

A bit of creative writing

I’ve obviously been super-inspired the last few days as I’ve written a couple of creative works. Figured I’d post on here for those that appreciate that sort of thing.

Do you like cyberpunk?

Well, do you? If so, do I have a new site for you:

Go read it, bookmark it and/or put it in your RSS reader. Then come back and read a bit more about why that site matters to MMO fans.

New writing project: Restless Deep

I’m proud to announce my new writing project: Restless Deep.

As I say in the about page for the site, it’s kind of like a literary webcomic: I’m hoping to post up brief stories that can be read during a coffee break.

Read on for a few more thoughts.

Article on legitimacy

I wrote an article on legitimacy for Gamasutra entitled Legitimacy For Game Developers.

Regular readers will probably recognize most of the topics presented. This article was intended more for a professional game developer audience given that site’s readership.

Doing research

I’m working on a writing project (details to follow once it gets to the point where I have something to announce), and I started doing some research about various topics I’m writing about.

Then I started to think back about the stories of research authors and game developers do. Wait, do game developers do research?

The secrets of storytelling

Scientific American had an interesting article on The Secrets of Storytelling. The article’s focus is on why storytelling works so well for humans. Most of the reasons relate to social activities.

Some food for thought since we deal with social activities in online games.
